On that night, me and this boy would walk home from school. He had gotten detention and asked me if I waited for him and he would walk me home. I waited the extra hour after school. We would tell each other everything, stories of our childhood, our mental health, our highs and lows, who we trusted and who we didn’t, the stories of how our parents met and got married.
We would tell the stories of what scared us as a child, and what helped us overcome those fears. We would talk about our hopes and dreams, what we hoped to achieve in life.
We would walk along the road, perhaps glancing at some trees that had Christmas lights hanging from the branches to get the town into the Christmas spirit, and our hands would touch by chance. We wouldn’t let go.
We would continue to walk, smiling and in silence, as he walked me to my bus stop, giving me a hug goodbye. But not before asking me to be his girlfriend.
4 years later, the rest is history. We were 15 and we are now 19, still so very much in love. I am so glad I waited for him after his detention at school. For if I didn’t, who knows what would’ve happened and where we would be now.
