I know it sounds cliche, but my best friend's wedding changed my life. I met someone who was the missing piece to my story, and I met him over the course of a weekend destination wedding.
We're busy getting ready for a day on the beach, and he walks in our condo. He is the twin brother of one of the Maids of Honor, the girl who I had bonded with the most over the course of the wedding planning. We spent time on the beach together, and I was immediately hooked. I wanted to play it cool though, so I hopped in the second car that was heading to the rehearsal dinner... it wasn't until he got to the dinner and told me how he wished I had been riding in his truck that I knew for sure he was into me, too. We drank wine, laughed, and I jokingly told him I was going to make him sing karaoke with me that night.
Fast forward to the wedding day. I'm not feeling too hot, red wine doesn't seem to like me much the day after. All of the bridesmaids are busy getting ready, helping the bride get dolled up, crying and drinking mimosas, and putting the finishing touches on the floral arrangements. I volunteered to help with the flowers, but only because I knew he was helping, too. I mentioned how I didn't feel good and asked if he and the Maid of Honor's boyfriend could bring me a Sprite I had at our condo, they had to go pick something up from our place. Less than 5 minutes later they're back with a snack and two bottles of Sprite from the store for me. He didn't want me to have to wait until they went to the condo and back. I know it sounds silly, how impressive is a Sprite? But this was just a glimpse into how caring he is, and how he will do anything in his power to take care of those who he loves. Little did I know, that Sprite was the first of many times he would be taking care of me.
He couldn't stop staring at me during the ceremony. He saved me a seat at the reception. He held my purse while we took pictures. We danced-- I got the boy who says he's never danced before out on the floor, spinning me around until the stars came out. Like something out of a fairy tale, I was the bridesmaid who fell in love at her old roommate's wedding, and never wanted to catch the bouquet more than I did that night. Even though I didn't catch the bouquet, I went home after that weekend, after that night we had our first kiss, knowing that I was going to marry that handsome Coast Guardsman.
So cheers to June, 10th 2018, and thank you to those lucky stars for shining bright on that weekend that I met THE boy. Cheers to you, Peter, and to our forever!
