How compatible are you with your favourite music artists?
Zodiac signs, also known as star signs, are ancient astrological signs which people have looked to for guidance over the years. Whilst there is no science to say that star signs have any predictive power over personality types or what the future will hold, many people still read their horoscope to find out what’s in store for their relationships, careers, day to day life and so on. But what does your sign say about your music taste? Are you naturally drawn to a good beat or do you prefer emotional lyrics? Are you more likely to listen to Beyonce if you’re a Taurus?
Here at Under Lucky Stars, we wanted to find out what our star signs say about our relationship with music - just for fun! We analysed sales data from Vivid Seats to find out how compatible different star signs were with those of best-selling artists and if there was any correlation between different star signs and how far they would be willing to travel to see their favourite artist.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Most compatible with Britney Spears
Ruled by the fire sign, those born under the Aries zodiac love a good beat. Music that’s energetic is a must for an Aries crowd. Not one for a slow number, Aries’ are a fan of songs which can get their blood pumping, with a tempo they can dance to.
According to astrologers, personality traits associated with the sign include being competitive, dynamic, eager and upbeat. Aries signs are generally considered to be the most compatible with Sagittarius, like Britney Spears, who like to carve their own path.
Based on this, Aries are more likely to enjoy music by Billie Elish, Jay Z, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Most compatible with Sam Smith
Taureans, of the Earth sign, are usually described as being easy-going. Whilst they may have a broad taste in music, they are more likely to enjoy music which is organic sounding and doesn’t involve a huge amount of fancy production or auto-tune. Basically, Taurus love any kind of music that gives them the feels.
Astrologers often refer to Tarueans as creative, dependable, musical and strong. It’s no surprise that Taurus is a strong match with grounded Virgos, such as Sam Smith, and are also highly compatible with intuitive Cancer signs.
Music which may be added to a Taurus’ playlist may include famous Cancer signs including Post Malone and Imagine Dragons, as well as famous Virgo signs including Billy Joel and Hootie and the Blowfish.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Most compatible with Lady Gaga
Gemini’s are usually described as being curious, expressive and kind! They are also considered to be quite versatile. Gemini’s are compatible with Aries, such as Lady Gaga, and Leo. Both of which are fire signs and are known for being bold and energetic.
Celine Dion, Elton John and Lady Gaga are all famous artists who fall within the Aries sign. Famous Leo signs include Dua Lipa, Madonna and The Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger. Based on zodiac compatibility, Geminis would enjoy music from these types of artists - definitely versatile!
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Most compatible with Justin Bieber
Known for using their intuition for connection, those under the water sign Cancer are more likely to love music they can connect with on an emotional level, according to astrologers. Relating to lyrics and finding passion in songs and seeing the beauty in the space between the lyrics.
Cancer’s hard exterior cuts through the bulls*** but once you’ve broken through it their loyalty is for life. Often described as passionate, intelligent, emotional and intuitive Cancer star signs are most compatible with Earth sign Taurus and fellow water signs, Pisces, such as Justin Bieber.
Famous Taurians include Adele, Lizzo and Travis Scott who are known for their stripped-back approach and focus on the power in their passion which plays to a Cancer’s music taste. As well as Pisces artists Rihanna and Adam Levine from Maroon 5, known for exploring their creativity and intuition, a key draw for Cancer music listeners.
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Most compatible with Bruno Mars
Loud and proud fire sign, Leo leads the zodiac with their bold presence which means they are more likely to love music that packs a punch, with hard-hitting lyrics, wild riffs or getting you right in the feels. Passionate in everything they do, Leos are most likely to love music that resonates with them.
Typically ambitious, bold, creative and courageous Leos are most compatible with Libras, such as Bruno Mars. Known for manifesting dreams into reality and forging relationships Libra musicians draw in Leos for lyrical fun and funky beats. Whereas Lewis Capaldi resonates with their empathetic and affectionate nature and Eminem grabs them by the boldness.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Most compatible with Ariana Grande
All about planning and the bigger picture Virgo is the earth sign that can ground you, say astrologers. Thriving off of beauty and organisation Virgo’s are more likely to enjoy clean cut and beautiful music, straying away from anything experimental or weird.
Virgo’s are attributed to being smart, sophisticated, kind and graceful and this is reflected in their music taste. Drawn to music from emotional songstresses such as Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray, Virgos are the most compatible with Cancer signs. Cutting through their songs to forge relationships and hit the hearts of their listeners with clean cuts and thoughtful lyrics.
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Most compatible with Kanye West
Valuing harmony, air sign Libra always puts others before themselves and excels in mediating situations and attention to detail. But, according to astrologers, these diplomatic traits are also met with intelligence and creative curiosity that shows given the support and the freedom Libra’s can lean towards exploring something new.
Strangely this means they are most compatible with air sign Gemini. Geminis are known for their creativity and versatility - just like bold and outspoken Kanye West!
Based on this, Libra’s are also likely to enjoy music from Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Iggy Azalea, who are also Geminis and are known for their uniqueness and creativity. This will inspire smart Libra’s into seeking more imagination in their lives.
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Most compatible with Selena Gomez
Unafraid to go their own way, water sign Scorpio values authenticity and craves controversy. With all the passion of a fire sign Scorpio’s can come across intimidating but do not be fooled, underneath this water sign is empathetic and in tune with their emotions.
Independent, seductive and passionate Scorpios are drawn to intuitive Cancer signs, so are the most compatible with Selena Gomez.
Based on this, they may also enjoy music from Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray. Their playlists are bound to be full to the brim with emotional bangers, guaranteed to have you singing at the top of your lungs.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Most compatible with Elton John
Natural leaders and adventurers, Sagittarius signs use their strong will to form their own path. Astrologers state that Sagittarius are happiest exploring and learning about new things, unafraid of working on themselves and on others. Their empowering music taste may reflect that.
Sagittarius is the most compatible with Aries, a dynamic fire sign whose celebrity roster includes the one and only Elton John.
Based on this zodiac relationship, Sagittarius' spotify playlists are likely to feature other stand out artists such as Celine Dion and Lady Gaga.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Most compatible with Freddie Mercury
Astrologers say that Capricorns always get what they want, and are known for their attention to detail, intelligence and work ethic.
Known for following the rules and sticking to their guns it is interesting that when it comes to music they are most compatible with artists who are Virgos, such as Freddie Mercury.
This compatibility suggests that Capricorns are searching for perspective whilst enjoying the beautiful music in life. Therefore, they may also enjoy music from other passionate virgos such as Shania Twain, Beyonce and P!NK.
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Most compatible with Taylor Swift
Idealists focused on change, those under the air sign Aquarius often think about everyone else before they think of themselves. Their drive to get things done will always lift those up around them, say astrologers, using their intuition and imagination to take those they care about to the next level.
Based on zodiac compatibility, Aquarius is drawn to natural leaders, pairing them perfectly with independent Sagittarius’ such as Taylor Swift.
Their playlist may also feature fellow strong-willed Sagittarius’ Billie Eilish and Miley Cyrus, both known for their creativity, independence and controversial art.
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Most compatible with G-Eazy
Deep thinkers Pisces are definitely the sensitive type, known for their strong intuition and artistic side. Pisces seek out music that is done a little differently, as day dreamers and wishful thinkers that see the silver lining in everything.
Known for going with their gut feeling Pisces are more likely to know what they like rather than go with the crowd, so it’s interesting that they should be most compatible with Geminis, such as G-Eazy, who harbour traits such as curiosity and versatility.
Based on this, Pisces may also enjoy music created by Kendrick Lamar, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Carrie Underwood. A versatile music taste indeed!
Forget 8 Mile, fans will travel over 1,000 miles to see Eminem perform
We then set out to find out which music artist had the most loyal fan base, to see if there was any correlation between zodiac signs, their musical taste based on compatibility of traits according to astrologers, and how far they would be willing to travel to see their favourite artist.
Our data reveals that people were willing to travel further to see Eminem than they were any other artist. Analysing the booking data, we found that fans travelled, on average, a whopping 1156 miles to see Eminem perform live!
Coming in second place is pop princess Britney Spears, whose fans travelled an average of 830 miles.
In third place is Bruno Mars - known for his funky beats and showmanship - whose fans would travel 325 miles on average.
Following closely in fourth and fifth place, with just 2 miles between them, are K-Pop boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys) with an average distance of 302 miles and Dead and Company with an average of 300 miles.
Three of the artists making the top 5 fall within the Libra star sign. Including rapper Eminem, boy band member Jung-kook and founding member of Dead and Company, Bob Weir. This would suggest that Libras have the most loyal fans!
When analysing the data, we found that fans were willing to spend more on tickets to see Adele than any other artist. With an average price of $441.37 per ticket, people spent an average of $147.89 more on tickets to see Adele than The Rolling Stones, who came in second.
Coming in third place, and the only artist to make both top 5 lists, are BTS (Bangtan Boys) whose fans spent an average of $289.66 per ticket.
Following closely in fourth place is Bruce Springsteen. Our data shows that fans spent $286.91 on a ticket to see the rock legend perform live in concert!
In fifth place is the one and only Elton John. The average cost of a ticket to see the showman live on stage is $279.80.
Whilst astrologers and stargazers may suggest that each sign of the zodiac displays certain traits or attributes, there is no science to support this. Our musical pairings simply show correlations between these suggested traits and genres of music or the lyrics they include. There is no science to suggest that your birth sign has any influence over your taste in music, this is simply just for fun.
Methodology
We wanted to find out if a person’s zodiac sign had any correlation with the kind of music they might enjoy listening to. Firstly, we used character profiles from Horoscope.com to decipher typical traits for each star sign, based on information given by trusted astrologers.
We then set out to find out which zodiac signs were the most compatible with one another, based on traits and mannerisms highlighted on Horoscope.com. To demonstrate this, we found out the star signs for some of the best-selling artists according to booking data from Vivid Seats, and paired each sign with a famous musician based on the compatibility of signs and the traits most commonly associated with them.
We looked at data from Vivid Seats which analysed the average distance fans were willing to travel to see their favourite artists, based on the location of the ticket holder and the venue of choice. The data also analyses the average cost per ticket for each artist.
We then used this data to find out which artists had the most loyal fan base in terms of a) how far they were willing to travel and b) how much they were willing to pay per ticket.
